UCI Gravel World Champion Matej Mohori Ute may reconsider discipline after being undone in Unbound Gravel, just the second race of his career in discipline.
The Slovenian joked while on the course along the way with team-mates Matef Govekar and Lucas Winiowski, who were interviewed by the race organisers. It's a beautiful day for cycling - beautiful weather".
Mohoric, Govekar and Wiłniowski were covered in dust, but not mud, in Emporia, Kansas, after they were found to be sunny and dry despite the strong winds. Wiłniowski first lost contact in the hectic first 20 miles. Govekar did not put glue next, after about 50 miles, before Mohori Umi finally threw a towel between the 101.6-mile time check and the 113.6-mile mark.
The World Tour rider was plagued by machinery on the Flint gravel Road.
"It's not such a beautiful surface," Mohorish said. "It's not smooth, it's pretty ugly. My sidewalls don't like it," he said, pointing to the rear wheels.
"Hopefully the second tube of the day will hold it now - even though I not only hit the stone, but also cracked my rim." Now we go a short way to the second checkpoint and we get something nice to shower and eat.
Before the race, Moholy Sea had promised to enjoy the only gravel race in the World Champion's jersey, "It will be a once-in-a-lifetime, unique experience and I will make the most of it.""
