There are few days of frenzied technology than the first day of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Last year we saw two new bikes made for a pretty busy day. This time we've seen four: the new Canyon Air Road, the new Pinarello Dogma F, the new Wilier All-Rounder and the new Trek Madone/Emonda.
The last on this list did not take long to win the first victory of the season under former world champion Mads Pedersen.
At the post-race press conference, he remained firmly "no comment" and tight-lipped on my interrogation, but I managed to spend five minutes on the bike at the finish line while Pedersen was performing his post-race duties and climbing up to the podium and collecting technicolor jerseys.
We can gather a lot from the photos, but the deliberately obfuscated label on the top tube, with both "Madone" and "Emonda" superimposed on top of the other, doesn't give us any further clues as to what this bike is.
