Mathias Flückiger has been exonerated in doping cases since 2022

Mathias Flückiger has been exonerated of anti・doping rule violations related to adverse analytical results from 2022 onwards.

The Swiss rider tested positive for trace amounts of geranol in 2022-6-5, just before winning the World Cup at Leogan.

Following the results, Flückiger was provisionally suspended and missed the 2022 European and World Championships and the last World Cup round.

After 4 months, the Swiss Olympic lifted the ban and determined that the discovery should have been classified as "atypical" rather than positive, and should not have caused an interim stop, since the amount of his sample was below the detection threshold.

"It's an intermediate success towards justice and truth," Flückiger wrote on Instagram after the suspension was lifted.

"But unfortunately the case has not yet been closed. The constant uncertainty, the months of waiting and unfounded accusations must finally end.

"Thank you to all those who supported me during this very difficult time and to all those who have not prejudiced me!""

Zeranol is banned by WADA under a class of anabolic steroids but is not approved for human use, rather it is a growth promoter in livestock

Flückiger told the Swiss anti・doping authority that his doping test results were based on hair analysis and the biological parameters of his athlete." We were able to convince that this could have reasonably resulted from food contamination due to normal steroid profiles in sport (ABP). Doping control was taken six days before and five days after showed no trace of the drug.

The 35-year-old was allowed to continue competing, but the anti-doping rule violation was not fully cleared until Friday.

This ruling opens the door for Flükiger to return to the Olympics after winning a silver medal behind Tom Pidcock in Tokyo.

Both riders will compete in the World Cup at Nove Mesto this weekend.
