Giulio Pellizzari becomes Italy's new Giro d'Italia celebrity after more daring mountain attack

There is no real Grand Tour candidate in Italy, but 20-year-old Giulio Perizari (VF Group Valdiani CSF-Faizane) became Tifosi's new idol at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, a hope for the future.

Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain victory) is also a rider for the future, riding in Rome on Sunday in the white jersey of the best young riders and finishing 5th overall. However, Tifosi cheered Perizari the most, as he continued his attacks on the slopes of Montegrappa. At the end of Stage 20, he was depressed and tired, but became happy after another day of attack.

Tadej Pogañar (UAE Team Emirates) closed Pellizzari's solo attack on Montegrappa, but the Italians managed to stay in the chase and finish sixth on stage.

"I didn't win the stage as I expected, but I think the time is on my side," Pellizzari said optimistically. "When I was climbing alone, everyone was cheering me on by calling my name. It made me feel as if I had three legs!

More importantly, he was first to the top of Montegrappa on the first climb of the mountain, and in the 18th and 2nd time of the climb of the km, second after Poganyal on the last time he scored 58 points in the classification of the mountain, so he passed Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost) and moved to second place after Poganyal.

In the final stage, the Slovenians will wear pink jerseys, while Perizari will board Rome in blue jerseys. It's just a reward for his fantastic riding in the last week of his debut Giro d'etalia.

Pellizzari was second only to Poganyal in Stage 16 Monte Pana finish 2 after making the attack. Pogañar saw the finish and caught him and passed.

Pogañar seemed keen to win the stage at the Dolomites because Pellizzari has the same agent, but the other riders influenced the race and pushed Pogañar strong

As compensation, Pogañar forced Pelizzari out of the stage with his Maglia Rosa.

Pellizzari had grown to admire Pogagnal, who has captured together in a 2019 photo of 2 Stradevianche. Pellizzari was 15 years old at the time, while Pogañar was a neo-pro for the UAE team Emirates.

Perizari was also in the break of the day in the 2024 Girodetalia Stage 15 and Stage 20. In the 2023 Tour de la Venir, he was ranked 2nd overall after Isaac del Toro of UAE Team Emirates.

"When Nairo Quintana won the time trial, I came to Monte Grappa to see the Giro. Going back here to attack makes me proud."
