EF Education-EasyPost on Saturday confirmed reports that Costa Rican rider Andrei Amador was injured in a serious accident while training outside Barcelona on Thursday. [Costa Rican outlet Teletica.com contacted Amador's mother, Raisa Viccazacova, who said Amador was struck by a truck that crossed the lane while training.

A photo of a crushed frame and wheel, allegedly Amador's Cannondale team bike, was posted on social media, but details of the incident are unknown.

The team released a statement on social media, saying, "Andrei Amador was involved in a training accident on Thursday, May 9, while riding outside of Barcelona.

"Amador slipped on a gravel climb, his bike went under a truck and he was hit in the leg. He broke his ankle and leg, but had no other injuries. We join us in praying for his recovery."

Amador lives in Girona, about 100 km from Barcelona. The location of the accident is unknown.

Teletica.com reported that his mother has been in contact with Amador's wife, who said it was "miraculous that he only suffered a leg injury."

He reportedly underwent surgery on a broken tibia and fibula at a Barcelona hospital. There is still no timetable for his recovery.
