Nielson Powles returns from knee injury in time for "steady preparation for the Tour."

Nielson Powles (EF Education-Easy Post) missed the Classic and was unable to wear a number for nearly two months.

The first race for the American is Wednesday in Eschborn-Frankfurt, and Powless is ready to reset from his knee injury at the World Tour One-Day Race in Germany.

"I'm not 100 percent sure about my fitness for Eschborn-Frankfurt, but I'll be racing tomorrow.

After crashing on the windy stage 4 O Gran Camino and abandoning stage 6 Tirreno-Adriatico due to knee pain, the 27-year-old Paules was initially expected to be able to resume training in late March. However, an inflammation of the patellar tendon necessitated a longer rest. Powles resumed training two weeks ago, but the first week was interrupted by illness.

Powles maintained his fitness with non-bike exercises during his recovery, and the former triathlete enjoyed swimming in the Mediterranean Sea near his home in Nice during his recovery. In addition to finding other ways to stay in shape, the change in schedule also created opportunities to pursue other goals.

"On the plus side. This situation has paved the way for me to compete at nationals, the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships, which will be held May 14-19.

"I haven't won yet, but national races are always a lot of fun. This year could finally be the year."

"I'm looking forward to the National Championships.

After relaunching in the one-day event, Powles will begin stage racing in the Tour de Suisse and will take on his fifth Tour de France.

"I think my body is getting healthy at the right time to steadily build up for the Tour. I'm not in a hurry right now, but my fitness is getting a lot better," Powles said.

"My preparation for the Tour should be no different. Hopefully, I will be fresher."
