Biniam Girmay models Intermarque Wanty's Giro d'Italia kit with the goal of winning a stage.

Two years after a breakthrough spring that saw him take a stage win ahead of Mathieu Van der Pol in his Grand Tour debut and another victory in Ghent-Wevelgem, Biniam Girmay will once again take on the Giro d'Italia.

He will lead the Intermarque Wanty selection this May, which focuses on increasing the number of Eritrean stage wins.

Last season, Intermarche Wanty finished in the top 10 in the Giro eight times, but failed to win a stage.

This time around, the team will be looking for more glory in Italy and will feature Italian winemaker Vini Fantini on its jersey.

"We achieved a memorable Giro d'Italia two years ago when we wore a special jersey for the first time named after our Italian partner Vini Fantini," said Gil May, referring to his sprint victory on stage 10 in Jessi two years ago.

"Last season, my teammates also shone in brightly colored kits, reflecting the light blue of the Italian sky over the vineyards. I am delighted that the blue-toned pattern was chosen again this year in honor of the Adriatic Sea.

"The combination with the traditional neon yellow creates the perfect synergy and will make you stand out in the peloton. I can't wait to wear this special kit at the start of my second Giro this Saturday and make my Italian partners, especially Vini Fantini, proud."

This year, Girmay will be supported by French breakaway hunters Lilian Callemagne and Adrien Petit on the team, with Madis Michels and Dion Smith assisting the 24-year-old in the sprint.

In addition, Dries De Pooter, Kevin Colleoni, and Roel van Sintmartensdyk will make up the team, the latter two making their Grand Tour debuts along with Michels.

"We go to the start of the Giro d'Italia with the ambition of winning a stage. Together with Biniam Girmay, we will focus on all the sprint opportunities, especially the hilly sprint opportunities at the start of the Giro.

"He also has a chance on the flat stages for pure sprinters, as he showed this year in Australia and Tirreno-Adriatico. Many teams are going into the Giro with the same ambitions as we do.

"There are many sprint trains and chaotic finishes that will no doubt affect how the race unfolds. Therefore, the fact that Vignam is surrounded by experienced riders will be an advantage to guide him."

Visbeek said riders like Petit and Smith will be valuable in assisting Gilmey, as will team sprint coach Pieter Van Speybroeck.

"Like them, our young talent Madis Michels has already led Vinium's leadout to victory at the Surf Coast Classic this season.

"We are also looking for opportunities in the transition stages, like Lilian Carmejane, who won the Tour and the Vuelta in a breakaway.

"Like Lorenz Rex and Arne Marit in the last edition, young riders like Michels, Roel van Sintmartensdyk, Dries de Pooter and Kevin Colleoni can discover three weeks of racing without pressure.
