Scandinavian tour cancelled due to “lack of funds”.

Organizers were forced to cancel this year's Tour of Scandinavia due to "lack of funding" but are now reorganizing with the goal of bringing the race back in 2025.

The six-day race was scheduled to run from August 27 to September 1 as part of the Women's World Tour. The number of events on the top calendar will be 27, with only 13 stage races.

In a press release on Friday, organizers said that efforts are underway to restructure the event concept before returning to the Women's World Tour next season.

"It is with a heavy heart that the Board of Directors, together with the shareholders and management, has unfortunately come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to host the Tour of Scandinavia this year," said Managing Director Marius Jorgensen.

"We must admit that intensive efforts have been made in recent weeks to find a solution to secure a financial basis for the implementation of the race, but have not been successful. A shortfall of approximately NOK 3 million is needed to achieve financial balance, and it would be irresponsible to plan for implementation this year."[9

The Tour of Scandinavia was held at the same time as the Nordic Youth Challenge, which was also cancelled. However, organizers will continue to hold local events such as the Summer Cycling School in cooperation with Green Cycling and the Tour of Norway for Kids.

The Tour of Scandinavia is a stage race that evolved from the Ladies Tour of Norway and includes Denmark and (in 2022) Sweden. Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig won the first edition, and Annemiek van Fruten won the second edition last year.

Organizers had not yet announced the route for the six-day race, which last time included a summit finish on Norefjell. However, they stated that they would aim to reduce losses associated with the event,

with the hope of providing predictability for all partners and maintaining their position in the Women's World Tour.

"It will also free up time and energy to work on restructuring both the company and the race concept to develop a sustainable event at the World Tour level for 2025. Jorgensen said, "The application for the World Tour status for 2025 has already been completed, which will allow us to maintain our status as a World Tour race and maintain the highest ranking of any Norwegian race."

Jorgensen said the organization is already planning next year's route, while working to establish a stronger, long-term financial model through partnerships and public grants. Jorgensen said, "Since the Tour of Scandinavia enjoys prestigious status abroad, this endeavor will include partnerships at home and abroad.
