FDJ-SUEZ, Tour de France Winner Demi Vollering, Leading Contender in Contracted Race

FDJ-SUEZ has not denied recent reports that Tour de France champion Demi Volering is close to signing a multi-year contract with the France-based Women's WorldTour team.

CEO and manager Stephane Delcourt told Cycling News that while the team does not comment on such negotiations, the fact that the Tour de France champion is connected to the team confirms the past, present, and future strength of the program

Cycling News understands that Movistar and UAE team ADQ are not interested in signing Volering, although initial contact has been made.

"The rumors linking FDJ-SUEZ with Demi Vollering, the last winner of the Tour de France Fam, only confirm the viability of the team's project, which has been in place since 2006 and built on years of hard work and humility," a team press representative provided comments to Cycling News on behalf of Delcourt on Monday.

"FDJ-SUEZ will not comment further on the rumors of negotiations.

It was recently reported in Algemeen Dagblad (AD.nl) that Vollering is currently in negotiations with the FDJ-SUEZ team and may race with the team on a multi-year contract beginning in 2025.

While several teams may be competing for Vollering, the report suggests that FDJ-SUEZ may be the front-runner in the race to sign the powerful Dutch champion.

UCI rules do not allow a final decision on a player's transfer to a WorldTour team or professional team for the upcoming season until the official transfer period, which runs from August 1 to December 31.

During the spring racing block, there was much media chatter about Vollering, with reports of a €1 million contract offer and the possibility of leaving SD Volkswagen Pro Time at the end of 2024.

SD Volks sports manager Danny Stam confirmed this news to GCN before the opening of the Dwar dohr Fraunderen in March in Waregem.

Subsequently, team manager Erwin Jansen spoke publicly about the negotiation process between the team and Vollering's representatives, revealing that he felt contract negotiations with Vollering had broken down.

Janssen explained the details of the contract negotiations at a team press event before the Tour de Flanders, where she revealed that Vollering had been given an ultimatum. However, after a lengthy negotiation period, her management did not accept and made it appear that she would leave the team.

A possible move to FDJ-Suez would have been a good idea, as the Tour de France was reborn in 2022, with Vienne Futuroscope in 2006, Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope in 2014, FDJ in 2017, and FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Futuroscope, now in 2022 as FDJ-SUEZ, will be a boon for the French team, which has focused on the Tour de France femme and won the yellow jersey at home since the team's inception.
