Wout van Aat runs outdoors for the first time since the crash of the Classic

Wout Van Aert, who suffered a major crash in the Doire de Flanderen last month, rode outdoors for the first time since the end of his Classics campaign.

The Belgian rider, who suffered a broken collarbone, sternum, and ribs in a group crash, gave up his planned Giro d'Italia debut last week because of the injury.

Van Aert has since resumed riding his bike indoors, and his Zwift account reports a total of 111 km of activity over the past few days. On Wednesday morning, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider went outside for the first time in three weeks and rode his mountain bike around his home in Herental, covering 30 km in just over an hour.

VanArt rode the bike, which has full suspension and spacers that raise the handlebars for added comfort.

He posted his ride data on Strava with the joking caption: "Sorry to all my colleagues who have been shitting me because I had a spacer under the stem."

In a video message last week, Van Aert said that he had not been able to get back into full He explained that he was unable to resume full training early enough to run in the Giro.

"At the moment I can't train at all. I'm trying to do my first pedal stroke on the bike, but not enough to train.

"That's why I made the decision not to start at the Giro d'Italia.

It is not yet known when Juan Art will return to competition, nor is it clear if he will be part of the Tour de France selection for the Visma Ries-a-Bike.

The 29-year-old had initially chosen to compete in the Giro rather than the Tour this season in anticipation of competing in both time trials and road races in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Van Aert won a silver medal on the road at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

Wisma-Ries-a-Bike's Tour de France ambitions and plans remain vague for the time being, and two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard's participation is clearly in doubt after he suffered a broken collarbone and pneumothorax in a group crash in Ituria Basque earlier this month

Dane is also a member of the team.

The Dane spent 12 days in a Vitoria hospital before being discharged Tuesday. Spain's AS newspaper reported that Vingegaard may have traveled by medical plane on Tuesday to his base in Switzerland or his home in Denmark, but Visma Lease-a-Bike has already confirmed that he will not participate in the pre-Tour de France high-altitude training camp scheduled for May

The team has already confirmed that it will not be taking part in the pre-Tour de France training camp in May.
