Lizzie Deignan, unlikely to compete in the Vuelta Femenina.

Lizzie Deignan's chances of starting at the Vuelta a Féménina are looking increasingly slim as she continues to recover from a broken arm suffered in a crash at last month's Tour of Flanders.

Lidtrek confirmed to Cycling News that Deignan's recovery is going well and that the medical team has given her the go-ahead to begin indoor training. However, her race schedule is still on hold.

"Lizzie's recovery is going well and she has already resumed indoor training, but it looks unlikely that she will be able to compete in the Vuelta.

Deignan was forced to abandon the Tour de Flanders after crashing just 10km into the women's 163km race. Several riders were involved in the accident, with Deignan and Marlen Reusser (SD WOrx-Protime) bearing the brunt of the injuries.

X-rays showed that Deignan fractured the radial head of his right arm, while Reusser's injuries included a broken jaw, bilateral ear holes, and eight broken teeth.

Deignan competed in seven one-day races in the Spring Classic block early in the season. She set her sights on the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France Femme later in the season and was named a Team GB member for the Olympics.

Her stage racing season was scheduled to begin with the Vuelta a Femenina, which ran from April 28 to May 5. However, although her recovery is going well, it has been only three weeks since her injury, and the team has ruled her out of the Spanish stage.

Dignan told the BBC that he is working with the medical team on the full recovery and mobility of his arm and is working on adjusting his pain level during treatment to ensure full range of motion.

"I have been told to tolerate a certain level of pain, especially because of the injury," Dignan said, noting that he currently has limited hand strength that affects his ability to grip the brake lever or shift gears.

"To regain full mobility, I have to force myself to straighten my arm more than I want to. I suffer from not knowing what level of pain I want. So I think of my limitations in terms of fracture pain. I've never done anything like that before."

Neither she nor Lidl Trek have confirmed Deignan's racing schedule, but the BBC has suggested that she may begin racing in the women's tour in June.
