Primoz Roglic to miss Ardennes Classic, focus on recovering from injury sustained in Ituria

Bora-Hansgrohe announced that Primoz Roglic will not participate in this year's Ardennes Classics and will focus on fully recovering from injuries sustained in a group crash on stage 4 of Iturria Basque.

Although he did not suffer any broken bones in the crash on the downhill from Alto de Oraeta, he is one of 11 abandoners, including Jonas Vingegaard (Vismaris A-Bike), Remco Evenpole (Suredal-Quick Step), and Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) He was one of the first.

Evenpoel had already announced that he would miss the Ardennes Classic due to injury, and on Friday Bora Hansgrohe announced that Roglic would also miss La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, April 17 and Liege-Bastogne-Liege four days later.

Evenpoel won back-to-back Liège-Bastogne-Liège titles in 2022 and 2023, while Roglic also won La Doyenne in 2020. It remains the only monumental victory for a Slovenian athlete.

In a team statement, Bora said, "Primoš Roglic will focus on recovering from the injury he sustained in Ituriá Basque. He will resume training on the bike next week." Therefore, the two days of racing at La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège have been removed from his program." Dan Rolland, Bora-Hansgrohe's head of performance, said, "Primosch has been with us all week to treat his major injury and knee. Our big goal is the Tour de France, so we want to give his body time to fully recover from this injury. So we've decided to focus the next week on his training."

After winning the opening stage of the Ituria-Basque and leading until his crash, Roglic's next race will be the Criterium du Dauphiné in early June.

It has not yet been determined if Roglic will compete in other races before June as a replacement for the events he was forced to miss.
