Often in big races, really interesting stories come from small teams. Today on the Uno-X Mobility men's team bus in Paris-Roubaix, I spotted a UCI Prototype sticker on Alexander Kristoff's bike.
Honestly, even without the prototype label, it is clearly a new machine, with one of the chunkiest headtubes I've seen in the pro peloton, and taking advantage of the new rules.
Details are scarce, and the team mechanics were tight-lipped, but we can glean some information from the photos. This is clearly an aero-only bike, and the team will use the already aero-look Dare VSRu for all-rounder duties and hill climb stages.
Christophe used a 56t chainring, set up on a 1X. This is in line with the male peloton's trend of using larger chainrings on flat stages for both aero and drivetrain efficiency reasons.
The model name is unconfirmed, but the downtube suggests it is a "Velocity Ace."
However, the bars are non-standard. The bike also has a new cockpit and a very deep top section, but Christophe has chosen to use VSRu bars for now due to the limited supply of 38cm wide bars.
