Lauren de Crescenzo (LDC) won the women's title in the Mid-South Gravel Race, while Torbjorn Lade (Trek Driftless) won the Elite men's race in the Six-Rider Sprint after a 100-mile race at Red Dirt in Oklahoma. In the non-binary category, Lee Wang won over Rach McBride.
In a two-up battle of just over 7 minutes behind de Crescenzo, Jenna Reinhart was 2 seconds ahead of Caroline Leszin in 2nd place. The pack of 6 candidates chased a further 7 minutes, with Haley Smith winning 4th place in the Bunch Sprint. De Crescenzo set the new best mark for women in 2023 with a time of 4:47:42, 7:21 more.
The Elite Men's Fight came down to six packs of riders who stayed together in the last single track section of the course. Within 10 miles of the finish line, Røed and Griffin Easter made a gap, but it all came back together in the last three miles.
Easter missed the win in inches and settled for a second after Røed who completed the ride at 4:26:54. John Bolstermann finished in 3rd place and Russell Finsterwald, Dylan Johnson and Peter Stetina left the podium. The 2023 men's winner, Payson McElveen, finished 13th.
Project Echelon Racing notched won a pair of uci races in Greece last week. Tyler Stites won the sprint at the GP Rhodes on the 1st. He led the bunch Sprint across the line after 186km, with teammate Scott McGill riding in 7th place.
On Day 2 of the race a 2.2-level tour of Rhodes Island, McGill won the first race of the season, the 148km Stage 1 from Rhodes to Maritsa, and later finished 3rd in Stage 3. Teammate Samuel Boardman dominated the mountain class after Stage 1 and won the Com jersey for the four-day stage race. Stites finished 7th overall, while Brendan Lim was 8th in the GC.
After completing the 5-day Volta ao Alentejo in Portugal this week, team US Continental squad will return to their homeland to prepare for the 4-24-28 Gila tour.
This year's Rock Cobbler winner Chase Walk (Mazda Rauf Cycling Team) is the latest addition to the elite field of the Lifetime Grand Prix, which starts on the 19th in the Sea Otter Classic's Fuego XL100k cross-country mountain bike race.
The 27-year-old Gravel professional from Minnesota will replace South Africa's Connie Luther in the 7-race series' 60 rider roster. Luther finished 10th overall in last year's Grand Prix, winning a share of the prize250,000 prize purse.
Walk, who also owns and operates a coaching and event services company, began making headlines in Gravel with a third-place finish at Gravel World three years ago and finished second in the Nebraska Race last year. Most recently, he was second in the Valley of Tears Gravel in Texas after Keegan Swenson.
This is the first adjustment made in 20 months to the invitation-only field for the 2024 Lifetime Grand Prix, which will consist of 30 elite women and 30 elite men in 2 months. On May 2, Truman Glasgow filled the open slot on the men's roster when Tasman Nankervis withdrew because of a lack of financial sponsorship that had secured travel expenses from Australia to the US・based race.
The Amerian Criteria Cup (ACC) series begins at St. Francis Tarsataf on May 7 and returns for three years with a lineup of eight races across the United States. Riders competing in this year's ACC will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2025 USA Cycling Professional Road National Championships.
The Top 10 in the overall standings of Elite Men's and Elite Women's will automatically qualify for next year's U.S. Pro-Criteria Championship. The leader of the entire ACC, as well as the winner of the sprint and team divisions, will be determined on 9/1, when the series ends in the Bomarito Audi West County Gateway Cup.
A total ACC prize purse of 1 100,000 will be shared equally between elite men and women in three categories, apart from the estimated 4 400,000 of cash and prizes offered at the individual events that make up the total of the race 35 days.
"I want to win the series again, but it's really important to keep the whole series in the family. Our team has 8 out of 4 winners last year, but I like those odds," said Danny Summerhill (Reign Storm Pro Cycling), ACC men's overall winner in 2023.
Coming back in the ACC sprint competition is the mid-race prize laps in each race. The daily prize money will be awarded three places deep, in addition to the ongoing point competition.
"The ACC is great for American Criteria racing, and having a season-long series really raises the level of the race and makes it really exciting for fans to follow in the inner Series competition. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things will swing in 2024 and I hope to defend that green jersey," said 2023 ACC Women's sprint champion Kimberly Lucie (DNA Pro Cycling).
Will also be the ranking of the ACC Junior series presented by the New Renaissance Finance for this season. After each event, the series rankings will be posted on the USA Cycling website.
