5 weeks after surgery on the iliac artery, Marianne Voss has returned to the road, but has indicated she will not return to the race in time for this cyclocross season. The 2024 world champion will focus on rebuilding her base after a forced rest from the bike.
The Jumbo-Visma rider has had arterial problems in recent years, and the latest operation to deal with flow restrictions is being carried out on May 8 after worsening pain and underpowering in his left leg.
"During the first 5 weeks of rehabilitation, I was not able to do any physical activity," Vos said in an Instagram post.In an instagram post, he said: "Starting this week I'm back on my bike for a 1-hour ride every other day, which is gradually increasing in time and intensity towards 3 hours daily in the next 2 weeks to the 8th week.
"I definitely made the most of my time off the bike, but I'm looking forward and interested in returning to training."
Vos has long suffered from pain and a lack of strength in his left leg, but this year his symptoms were getting worse.
She was one of many riders who turned to iliac artery surgery, and among the list of riders who returned from a difficult period after undergoing surgery are Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, Annemiek van Vleuten and Amanda Spratt.1
This road season Vos, which signed with Jumbo Visma until the end of 2025, won the Women's World Tour 2 times on the stage at La Vuelta Femenina and won the podium at the Tour de France Femme and Giro d'Italia Don.
It may be a strong season by most standards, but it is one of the very worst Dutch riders. During her 18-year career, the only season with a lower winning tally was the injury and fatigue-plagued year of 2015, when she only raced on the road twice.
Vos last week made plans to return to the race in 2024 with new coach Rutger Tijssen, Jumbo Visma Women's team Manager.
Although no details have been given on a possible date for the resumption of competition, the 36-year-old appears to be very unlikely to race the cyclocross this season.
"The first major focus is to build a solid foundation that means the CX race is not planned," Vos said.
