Simmons, Sheffield, Jorgenson withdraw; Warbasse, Barta named to U.S. Men's World Championship squad

USA Cycling will be without Quinn Simmons and Matteo Jorgenson due to injury, while Magnus Sheffield is still recovering from his crash at the Tour de Suisse.

Sheffield crashed on the same descent as Gino Mader in the Tour de Suisse. He suffered a concussion, took a few weeks off the bike, and resumed training on a stationary trainer in July, according to his social media posts.

Simmons, the 2019 junior road world champion, crashed heavily on stage 5 and abandoned on stage 9 of the Tour de France. Jorgenson also abandoned before stage 16 of the Tour de France with a muscle tear.

Lawson Craddock, who was scheduled to compete only in the road race, has been added to the elite men's individual time trial and will race alongside Brandon McNulty, who finished sixth overall at the Tour de Pologne on Friday.

Larry Warbus (AG2R Citroen) has also been selected to represent the men's road race. He finished 29th in the Tour de Pollogne and went straight to Glasgow for the men's road race on Sunday.

Will Barta was also added to the U.S. men's road race squad. He has not raced since June, when he finished second behind McNulty in the national championship time trial.

Nielson Powles is expected to medal in Glasgow after finishing fourth in the Clasica San Sebastian, fifth in the Tour of Flanders, and on the podium in the Dwars door Hlaanderen.
