Considered one of the most versatile riders in modern cycling, Taddei Pogachar has won most of cycling's most prestigious races with the exception of the elite men's road race at the World Championships.
Pogachar, who has had amazing success, winning the Tour of Flanders, the Amstel Gold Race, and La Flèche Wallonne, is the favourite to take the rainbow jersey in Sunday's elite men's road race in Glasgow.
Unlike rivals Mathieu van der Pol, Remco Evenpool, and Wout van Aert, Pogachar did not arrive midweek to preview Glasgow's road race circuit. He arrived in Glasgow late Friday night to maximize his recovery from the grueling Tour de France and kept a low profile before Sunday's race.
"It's the same every year, the biggest one-day race. This time the time is a little different, right after the Tour. Let's hope for a good leg," Pogachar commented to Cycling News.
The elite men's race will start in Edinburgh and run 120km to Glasgow, with a 96.4km race followed by a 5.6km climb up Crow Road. This climb is a steep gradient and a criterium-like 14.3km circuit, so teams will be looking to split the peloton over the 11-minute climb before reaching Glasgow.
Pogachar expects the race to be a "super selective battle."
"Parkour is really tricky and hard. The race itself will be super selective. It will be a super interesting race and I'm very happy to be at the start with the national team."
"I'm very excited to be there.
The world title is one of the few honors not in Pogachal's possession. His best result in the world championships is seventh place in the 2018 under-23 race. But he dreams of winning the rainbow jersey.
"I always have the desire and dream of getting the rainbow stripes. But it's really hard to win the World Championships.
"I don't know what will happen. I'll keep coming back every year and keep trying to make my dream come true."
