Anemiek van Fruten took a solo victory on stage 7 of the Giro Donne, cementing his place in the Maria Rosa. Cycling News presents the winners and losers in the GC standings ahead of Friday's rest day and the final two stages in Sardinia.
After seven stages and with two more on the weekend, Van Vleuten holds a 3:56 lead over DSM-Filmenig's Juliette Labusse.
With the exception of Van Vleuten's teammates Liane Lippert (4th) and Veronica Eworth (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) in 11th, the top 10 in this stage consisted of the top 10 GC rankers.
Eworth, who was in second place in GC until stage 7, lost time in Colle Paravenna and eventually finished 11th with Mavi Garcia of Liv Racing Tecfindo.
Eworth dropped to fourth overall, 5:35 behind Van Vleuten, and Garcia dropped two places to seventh overall, 6:21 behind.
Stage third-place finisher Gaia Lealini (Lidl Trek) earned four bonus seconds and moved up from fourth to third overall by 4:25. Meanwhile, FDJ-SUEZ's Cecily Uttrup-Ludwig, who lost about 3 minutes in the queen stage of stage 5, moved up to 6th in GC with 6:16.
UAE Team ADQ retained two Italians in the top 10, with Erika Magnardi in 5th with 5:37 and Silvia Persico in 9th with 7:01, both moving up one spot on GC.
SD Works' Niamh Fischer-Black, who attacked to pull away from the group of contenders for the win, stalled on the climb and finished the stage in eighth place, 1:06 behind Van Vleuten. However, the New Zealander moved up one place on GC to finish 8th overall at 6:58.
However, the fastest time-slower on the day was Ane Santesteban of Team Jayco Aroura, who started the day in eighth place overall, 5:36 behind, but dropped back to tenth overall, 9:12 behind.
Van Vleuten has a firm grip on the GC lead heading into tomorrow's rest day, but the minor standings have moved significantly throughout the race.
With the final two hilly stages in Sardinia coming up, the standings could shift again by the end of the race in Olbia on Sunday.
