Hunt Bike Wheels has released its latest gravel wheelset, the Limitless Gravel Adventure. It follows the same pattern as the existing Hunt 42 Limitless Gravel Disc wheelset, but retains the wide aero rim profile of the 42 Limitless wheelset, which we rated 4 out of 5 stars in last year's review, while adding a new design for bikepacking and The specs have been enhanced to handle the higher loads and torques typical of ultra-endurance riding.
The aero rim profile is typical of the best gravel wheelsets. Hunt's Limitless Aero technology makes it possible to create very wide wheel rims (in this case, 25 mm inner diameter and 36 mm outer diameter) while maintaining a competitively low weight of 1,642 g. This is accomplished by incorporating a low-density polymer, less than half the density of carbon fiber, into the rim and bonding it to the outer layer of carbon fiber.
This is the same design used in road bike wheelsets like the Hunt 48 Limitless UD Carbon we reviewed recently.
This construction method allows Hunt to achieve a 42mm-deep U-shaped rim profile, optimizing aerodynamics when fitted with 38-42mm gravel tires. Hunt claims that in wind tunnel testing, the wheelset had an aero benefit of up to 16.8 watts compared to a non-aero gravel wheelset, resulting in a time savings of 7 to 9 minutes in a 200-mile race.
According to the brand, the wheels are also very stable in gusty crosswinds, a trait that we noted when we tested the 42 Limitless gravel disc wheels, which is also an advantage for long-distance gravel riders. [Hunt will include tubeless tape, valves, and spare spokes with the wheels, as well as axle adapters if the gravel bike's spacing is out of spec.
The adventure part begins with the increased spoke count: 24 spokes front and 28 spokes rear for the 42 Limitless Aero Gravel Discs, 20/24 spokes. Both wheelsets use the same J-Bend Pillar Wing Aero spokes, but brass nipples are used on the new wheelsets for increased durability.
The hubs have also been upgraded to handle the high-torque loads typical of load running. double floating ratchet freehubs are used versus the 3-pawl design of the 42 Limitless aero gravel disc wheels. the 40-tooth ratchet allows the engagement angle is increased to 9 degrees from 7.5 degrees on the 42-limitless.
The freehub itself is coated with ceramic to prevent scratching.
Everything rolls on Revo steel bearings, which are double-sealed and lubricated with heat-resistant grease.
Due to the enhanced specs, the weight is 1,642g compared to 1,548g for the 42 Limitless, an increase of just under 100g.
The Hunt Limitless Gravel Adventure Wheelset is priced at £1,299 ($1,649, €1,649) and is now available for pre-order on the Hunt website and will be available at the end of August.
