A fierce GC battle took place in the Tour de France between leader Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo) and second place Tadej Pogachar (UAE Team Emma). The intense GC battle between Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and second-placed Tadei Pogachar (UAE Team Emirates) came to an end on stages 16 and 17.

Vingegaard now leads Pogačar by 7:35 in the Tour de France GC standings and his Slovenian teammate Adam Yates by 10:45.

The rest of the Tour de France field is clustered around a significant margin of 12 to 18 minutes, and while it is unlikely that the standings will change before Paris, there will certainly be action among the riders fighting to move up in the overall standings.

Stage 19 could be a breakaway, a sprint, or a late attack on the last 30km of the Category 3 Côte de Ivory.

The big moment in the mountains on stage 20 will be the last gasp for the overall contenders to move up in the standings.

Fifth-placed Simon Yates will be looking to overtake fourth-placed Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos), 19 seconds back, or his twin brother Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates), 1:34 back, for the final podium spot.

Pero Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) may try to get past Yates by 31 seconds or focus on holding off Jai Hindley (Bora Hansgrohe) by a minute.

The focus then turns to the points prize and the sprinters, whose finish on the Champs-Elysées in Paris is the biggest day of the year.
