Bahrain Victorious has unveiled a new look ahead of this year's Tour de France, following the growing trend of teams unveiling special edition kits for the Grand Tour.
The team will replace its red, black, and blue look with a white jersey with gold and teal in honor of Bahrain's pearl history.
Bahrain has historically been a world center for pearl fishing and the pearl trade, and pearls have long supported the country's economy. The team's new design is carried over to the Alley kit, Rudy Project helmets, and Merida bikes.
The teal accents symbolize the waters of the Arabian Gulf, while the gold splashes represent the sparkle of pearls, the team says.
The new design also features four pearls on the upper chest and a new design for Bapco Energies, one of the team's major sponsors. Otherwise, the sponsors of the jerseys and shorts remain largely the same.
The team's Merida bikes (the Reacto aero bike and the Scultura lightweight bike) also feature a new design, doing away with the usual red and black paint job in favor of clean white with gold lettering, teal trim, and a "Team Pearl" decal on the top tube. Team Pearl" decal on the top tube.
The team will be led by Mikel Landa in July and will be looking for its first podium finish at the Tour. Stage-hunters Matej Mohoric and Fred Wright will also take on the Tour de France, which begins July 1 in Bilbao.
The new kit will not be the only new design to debut at the Tour de France. Jumbo-Visma has already released a star-themed kit, and last year the Dutch team, along with Bora-Hansgrohe, Israel-Premier Tech, Trek-Segafredo, and EF Education-Easy Post, released a similar kit.
Before Bahrain changed their kit, Bahrain, Cofidis, Ineos Grenadier, Arkea Samsic, and Lot Dostny wore the red jersey.
On the other hand, the change to white could clash with the white teams of AG2R Citroen, UAE Team Emirates, and, depending on the rebranding to Lidl Trek, Trek Segafredo.
