Garmin has introduced two new smart adventure watches, the Epix Pro and the Phoenix 7 Pro. The Fenix and Epix were already part of Garmin's smartwatch lineup, but both models received the "Pro" treatment, which means iterative improvements rather than a full-scale overhaul. They received the "Pro" treatment, meaning.
This means that both models will receive various hardware and software updates as well as new features that mean they will compete with the best cycling watches. The Epix Pro remains the top (and most expensive) of the range and is, in Garmin's words, "the ultimate high-performance smartwatch."
The Fenix 7 Pro delivers excellent battery life, thanks in part to its solar charging capabilities, and focuses on offering a variety of training tools The company has placed a strong emphasis on.A key hardware feature of both models is the inclusion of a built-in front-mounted LED flashlight. While the two watches share many of the same updates, there are some differences, which are described below.
The top-of-the-line Epix Pro series adds a variety of new software and new features that will be available on models other than the Fenix 7 and Epix Pro. The 98 gram Epix Pro comes in 42 mm, 47 mm, and 51 mm face sizes, variable light intensity, strobe mode, and a new built-in LED flashlight with red safety light. The strobe mode can also be adjusted to the running cadence.
It also features a new optical heart rate sensor for more accurate HR measurement and increased storage to 32 GB for all models.
Multi-band GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is also now standard, previously available only on the most expensive "Sapphire" model. The Epix also features an AMOLED screen display, as opposed to the Fenix 7's MIP display.
Prices for the Epix Pro start at £829.99/$899.00 and go up to £999.99/$1,099.99 for the most expensive Sapphire edition.
The Fenix 7 Pro comes in three screen case sizes, as does the Epix, 42mm, 47mm, and 51mm. For adventurers who need solar charging capabilities, Garmin claims that the smartwatch mode provides up to 37 days of battery life in smartwatch mode when using the solar charging mode under 50,000 lux conditions and 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. (Lux measures the intensity of light levels.)
The Fenix 7 also benefits from the same heart rate sensor improvements as the Epix, including a MIP (memory in display) screen display and advanced training features such as endurance and hill scores.
The Fenix 7 Pro also has some tweaks in the form of additional selectable activity profiles and improved mapping capabilities.
Pricing for the Fenix 7 Pro starts at £749.99/$799.00 and goes up to £929.99/$999.99 for the 51mm Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar Edition.
