The Jumbo Visma team for the Tour de France includes 2022 winner Jonas Wieneggor, Wout Van Aert, Dylan Van Barre, and American Sepp Kuss. However, Senior Director Sportif Merijn Zeeman said that Giro d'Italia winner Primoš Roglic will not be included in the final group of eight and will likely concentrate on the Vuelta a España and Il Lombardia after taking a break from racing in July He suggested.
Since winning the Giro d'Italia a week ago, Roglic has sent mixed messages. Last Sunday, he reaffirmed that "the Tour is out of my hands," and when asked about competing in this year's Tour during his visit to the Netherlands to celebrate his Giro d'Italia victory, he replied: "No, maybe. I don't know."
It was up to Zeman.
"I'm going to leave Primorsch alone for now. Then we'll make a new plan," he told the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
"Before the season we assumed that he would also ride the Vuelta. Primoš also wants to ride and win in Lombardy. He has those qualities."
The 2023 Jumbo Visma lineup is very similar to the team that Jonas Vingegaard beat Tadej Pogacar in 2022. Van Baarle replaced Roglic with eight riders, and the rest of the team is the same as in 2022.
Vingegaard is the team's only overall contender this year, while van Aert will be fresh for the Glasgow World Championships two weeks after the Tour ends and will be more interested in a stage win than the green points jersey.
Also in the lineup are van Baar, Christophe Laporte, Thijs Benoot, Nathan van Hooydonk, and Kuss.
Zeman indicated that Kelderman was the first reserve, as he missed the Giro due to an injury sustained at the Tirreno Adriatico. Kuss was a late replacement for the Dutch veteran in the Giro, but was impressive in helping Roglic to limit the loss of timers in the mountains.
"Wilco is well on his way to the Tour. If we need him, he can be there in a heartbeat. We have a strong reserve and can rest assured," Zeman said of Kelderman.
Kuss has been recuperating at home in Andorra since the Giro d'Italia and is unlikely to race again before the Tour de France.
Vingegaard and part of the Tour de France team will compete in the Criterium du Dauphiné starting Sunday, while Van Aert will lead the Jumbo-Visma team in the Tour de Suisse starting June 11.
