Team DSM director Ivan Spekenbrink revealed that the team is looking to sign a top-level sprinter for the 2024 season.
"It is true that we are currently looking for a sprinter who can certainly achieve victories," Spekenbrink told De Telegraaf.
"We can put together a great sprint train, but at the moment we don't have a finisher. The top sprinters also know that in every sprint, our riders are delivering the sprinters to themselves or where they want them to be. This is a collaboration that brings a lot to both sides."
DSM's current roster includes Alberto Dainese, who has won the bunch sprint at the last two Giro d'Italia, and Sam Welsford, who won the sprint twice at the Vuelta a San Juan in January.
Notable sprinters such as Kooi, who is expected to leave Jumbo-Visma for bigger opportunities, and Jacobsen, who will join Tim Merlier in Remco Evenpole's Sudar-Quick Step team for the Grand Tour, have contracts that expire at the end of 2023. The contract will end at the end of 2023. [Meanwhile, Jacobsen has 41 victories, including wins at the Tour de France, the Vuelta a España, the Cune Brussel-Cuneux, and the European Championships.
Other riders whose contracts expire at the end of 2023 include Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe), Giro d'Italia's Maria Ciclamino, Jonathan Millan (Bahrain Victorious), and Dainese.
DSM, which will be rebranded DSM-Firmenech this month after a corporate merger by its title sponsor, has lost a string of leaders in recent seasons, including Jai Hindley and Tymen Arensmann, but Spekenbrink said this week that such departures Criterium du Dauphiné, he argued, would only give space to new talent, including the British duo of Max Poole and Oscar Only, who will be competing in the Criterium du Dauphiné.
"They have everything to be at the top in terms of talent, personal traits, top sporting experience, and all kinds of skills.
"The fact that riders like Timen Arensmann, Jai Hindley, and Michael Stoller have left means there is room for others.
Norwegian rider Andreas Leknesund is the latest rider to break into the Dutch squad. The 24-year-old, who recently wore pink for five days at the Giro d'Italia and finished eighth, is favored to move to Uno X in 2024.
