Tour de France winner Chris Froome will compete in the CIC Mont Ventoux one-day race next Tuesday. The race, which climbs the mountain nicknamed "The Giant of Provence" twice, will take place on June 13.
Froom last finished 14th in the Mercan Tour Classic Alpes Maritimes, a French mountain one-day event, behind winner Richard Calapas (EF Education Easy Post).
In a strong Israel-Premier Tech climbing lineup, according to race organizers, Froome will join teammates Mike Woods and Domenico Pozzovivo at the 154km CIC Mont Ventoux.
Israel Premier Tec has yet to decide on its Tour de France squad, but Froome will face a selection battle since he has barely raced in 2023.
Daryl Impey, Michael Woods, 2022 stage winners Simon Clark and Hugo Houle, Jacob Fuglsang, and sprinter Giacomo Nizzolo are expected to be selected for the Tour de France.
It is not known whether last year's winner Ruben Guerreiro (Movistar) will have a memorable 1-2 finish with teammate Esteban Chaves in 2022. But at least one former Ventoux champion and former Spanish national champion, Jesus Herrada (Cofidis), is already on the provisional start list.
Herrada's teammate Guillaume Martin, fifth in 2022 and third in 2020, has also been named as a starter by the organizers, as has recent Giro d'Italia leader Bruno Almirail (Groupama-FDJ), Giro d'Italia 2021, Vuelta a España 2019 mountain winner Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R-Citroen), former Vuelta a España leader Rudy Morar (Groupama-FDJ), and Movistar's diminutive Colombian climber Ivan Sosa.
The 5th CIC Ventoux, to be held on June 13, will start in the town of Vaison-la-Romaine, which has hosted several finishes in the Criterium du Dauphiné and Tour de France, and will finish on a summit 1,910 meters above sea level, a 4,500-meter elevation gain Includes.
