Pogacar and Yates head to Sestriere to prepare for Tour de France

Two-time Tour de France champion Taddei Pogachar and Criterium du Dauphiné runner-up Adam Yates will join UAE Team Emirates for a short Tour de France stage in Reconcerting and Sestriere. He will participate in a training camp.

Pogachar is recovering from a broken wrist suffered in Liege-Bastogne-Liege in April and returned to road training in late May, joining his teammates for the team's training camp in the high Sierra Nevada.

While Pogachar remained in camp, key Tour de France riders Yates and Rafau Mayka headed to the Criterium du Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse, the pre-Tour warm-up races, respectively.

This week, the Slovenians were cleared to train for the Tour de France, which starts July 1. [The results of the CT scan are positive. Bone is healing well; CT scan results are positive; bone is healing well. Taddei will continue to use the hand brace as a precaution," UAE Team Emirates told WielerFlits.

Pogachar will follow his plan for 2019, returning to Sestriere, Italy for a short training camp before heading to Bilbao for a home road race at the Slovenian National Championships.

Yates finished second in Sunday's Criterium du Dauphiné, 2:23 behind overall winner Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma). The British rider attacked several times on the climbs to no avail during the eight-day race in an attempt to take the leader's jersey.

"I had a really good race. Mikkel won the TT on stage 4, I was second on GC, and I did my best. It wasn't the top step, but I think I gained a lot of confidence from this week," Yates told Cyclingpro.net.

Yates finished ninth in the 2022 Tour despite being ravaged by illness, but his best result on record was fourth overall in the 2016 race. There is still a lot of stress going into the Tour as an important domestique.

"There is pressure, there is stress. You have to arrive in top form. But you have to be in the right place at the right time and do the right job at the right time."

"It's still going to be a little stressful, but it's going to be a good experience.

Yates is ready to assist the leaders and the team. He said, "We had a good run as a team this week and we're getting better step by step. Now I just want to rest a little bit and take a step up."

Yates will join Pogachar in the Tour training camp to rest and prepare for La Grande Boucle.
