Chloe Hosking did not sign with another team after B&B Hotels folded late last year, but that does not mean she will not wear a number this year. The Australian will be heading straight from the FNLD GRVL in early June to the US for another chance to try her hand at criteriums.
After signing with US-based Rally Cycling, Hosking expected 2020 to be a year heavy on criterium racing.
However, 2020 was the year that COVID-19 threw a wrench in many well-thought-out plans. And after signing a contract with Trek-Segafredo for 2021 and 2022, she focused again on Europe. This summer, she returned to the United States.
"I'm going to jump on a plane and race straight in the US," Hosking said from Finland, where she will tackle the 177-km gravel event. I'll be riding all of the [Tour of America's] Daily Runs criteriums, as well as the criterium in Boise, Idaho, and the two criteriums in Salt Lake City. These are the ones I grew up racing." [The KwikTrip Tour of America's Dairyland race begins Thursday, June 15 in Janesville, Wisconsin, with 11 consecutive days of criteriums in 11 southeastern Wisconsin communities. The third race, Giro d'Grafton, is the fourth round of the American Criterium Cup, which features 10 races across the United States. Hosking will also participate in the Boise Twilight Criterium on July 8 and the Salt Lake Criterium on July 15 and 16, with results from the first day of Boise and Salt Lake reflected in the ACC series rankings.
"I've always said I wanted to compete in crit races in the US. And there is a real sense of freedom in being able to choose your own program, to go to races that you might enjoy, and to ride your own bike with no pressure.
Hosking plans to go out without a teammate and use his racing experience and ability to jump off the wheels of other teams. She will also race on her new Hosking bike, having launched her brand with gravel and road bikes.
She won La Course in 2016 and has about 40 wins as a pro, after her contracted team for 2023, B&B Hotels, unexpectedly ended her European pro cycling career prematurely when their new women's team plans broke down in December, She is now based in Australia. Hosking has not turned her back on the sport, however, and the 32-year-old has not ruled out the possibility of returning to a top team in 2024.
