David Lapartient has officially accepted his candidacy for the presidency of the French Olympic Committee.
Already a member of the International Olympic Committee, the UCI president is the president of the French Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail, which focuses on local and grassroots general sports activities, and Emmanuelle Bonnet-Ouladj ( Along with Emmanuelle Bonnet-Ouladj, he is currently one of two candidates.
The search for a new president began after her predecessor, Brigitte Henriques, resigned in late May. Preliminary elections will be held on June 29. The election results will be approved at an extraordinary general meeting in September.
Since this election is outside the normal election cycle, which ends in 2025, Lapartien's first goal is to become president of the French Olympic Committee for the next two years, during which time Paris will play host to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in July and August 2024.
La Partiente has said that if elected, he would remain president of the UCI and prefect of the Morbihan department in western France, but would resign from other positions during his tenure, including prefect of the Gulf of Morbihan Natural Park.
He has also stated that his job as president of the French Olympic Committee is unpaid, but requires him to be in Paris every week.
"Whatever assignment I receive, I will carry it out to the best of my ability and I consider myself a hard worker," he told L'Equipe.
"But there are only 24 hours in a day and everything has its limits.
"If I am chosen, it will complicate the way I spend my time during these 22 months. So I would have to quit certain jobs and change the way I do others.
