After his tragic death in the Tour de Suisse, 700 donations were received and the Justdiggit environmental charity will create a re-green area in memory of Gino Mader.
Maeder donated one euro every day for each of the top finishers in the Vuelta a EspaƱa, helping to raise funds for Justdiggit's reforestation campaign in Africa in 2021. The Bahrain Victorious riders also pledged 10 euros for each rider who won in the final overall standings, for a total of 4,529 euros donated to Just Diggit's land restoration project.
Tao Geoghegan Hart called for more donations to Just Diggit after Meder's death in the Tour de Suisse and collected 700 donations.
"We are deeply touched by the overwhelming support our organization has received from the cycling community following the tragic passing of Gino Meder," said Just Diggit.
"It has become clear over the past few days that Gino Mader touched the hearts of many people around the world with his actions. We have received over 700 donations made in his name from fans honoring his legacy. We are deeply touched by this response within the cycling community that honors Gino's desire to reclaim our planet and are grateful for the collective support for our land restoration project.
"In honor of Gino, a great sportsman and an even better human being, we will reclaim a dedicated area with your heartfelt donations at a location to be announced at a later date. May Gino rest in peace and may his call to change the way we treat the earth, animals, and each other live on in all of us."
