Ahead of the Tour de France, Look Introduces New Road and Time Trial Bikes
[Before the Tour de France, Look unveiled two new race bikes. The brand has modified its 795 Blade RS road bike and 796 Monoblade RS time trial bike with input and cooperation from Team Cofidis riders.

Look claims to have drawn on decades of carbon fiber manufacturing and design experience to develop the bikes. Both models have been in development for some time, having been tested by World Tour riders during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and we covered Brian Cockard's Look 795RS at the Tour Down Under in January, ahead of its official launch.

According to Luc, the updated versions of the 795 Blade RS and 796 Monoblade RS are a natural evolution from the previous models. Carbon fiber layup seems to have been a key focus in the design of the bikes. Ultra high-modulus carbon is said to have been used in specific layups and orientations to reduce weight while simultaneously increasing stiffness in critical areas.

Pierre Jean Martin, CTO of LOOK Cycle, said: "We are pleased to announce the new 795 Blade RS and 796 Monoblade RS. These cutting-edge bikes embody the pinnacle of innovation and performance, born from the expertise and insights gained from our partnerships with professional cyclists. 795 Blade RS and 796 Monoblade RS are meticulously designed to excel in the most demanding racing conditions, and are the perfect complement to the Cofidis 795 Blade RS. They are meticulously designed to deliver superior performance in the most demanding race conditions, providing an unparalleled experience for both Cofidis team riders and passionate cyclists from around the world. With their outstanding aerodynamics, lightweight design, and cutting-edge technology, these bikes represent our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in cycling. We are confident that the 795 Blade RS and 796 Monoblade RS will empower athletes to reach new heights and redefine the standards of speed and performance in the cycling world.

The 795 Blade RS frame is constructed of ultra high modulus carbon fiber to optimize lightness and stiffness. This new version is said to be 7% stiffer and 10% more aerodynamic than its predecessor, with race-oriented geometry.

Aerodynamics also contributes to the design, which is a must for World Tour race machines. According to the brand, the seat stays, bottle cage location, seat post, seat post clamp, top tube, and fork are all shaped with aerodynamics in mind.

The 795 also features an aero integrated cockpit made of carbon fiber, with separate bars and stem for easy cable routing and handlebar and stem replacement.

Overall bike weight is estimated at 7.0 kg for a fully race-ready bike (size M) equipped with Dura-Ace, power meter pedals, bottle cages, and Colima MCC EVO 32 tubular wheels. Therefore, larger and less expensive bikes are expected to be in the 7-8 kg range.

Team Cofidis, pro rider Simon Geske says: "The new Look 795 Blade RS we will be using this season is really great. We had thorough discussions with LOOK's R&D department and Colima before the season in order to get the best bike possible. Not only is this bike fast and responsive, but it maintains a constant speed which is extremely important. Furthermore, thanks to its extremely precise handling and perfect aerodynamics, it performs flawlessly on any terrain. We are truly delighted to be able to ride on such state-of-the-art technology."

Look claims that the goal in designing the 796 time trial bike was to create a bike focused on pure speed and aerodynamics. The new 796 frame is said to be lighter and stiffer than its predecessor.

The frame is made of 25% high-modulus carbon fiber and is built to T47 bottom bracket standards. There is also said to have been a lot of effort put into aerodynamic profiling of each part of the frame, with a special focus on disc brakes and electronic group sets. There is a new Look Aero Flat 400mm base bar with integrated cable routing and new Ergo carbon fiber bar extensions that can be adjusted up to 20 degrees. The seatpost has also received an update, with an aero profile, reversible sliding head, and integrated seatpost clamp.

Team Cofidis pro rider Benjamin Thomas said: "Working with Look Cycle's R&D department, we had the opportunity to test the 796 Monoblade RS early in the off-season. This bike is very lightweight and fast for a time trial bike. What excited me the most was its stiffness, responsiveness under acceleration, and meticulously developed aerodynamics for high-speed riding. The handlebar setup is optimized to provide a smooth and effortless ride, making it a truly perfect time trial bike."
