Ben Healy Agrees to New Contract with EF Education After Breakthrough Spring

Ben Healy has agreed to a new multi-year contract with EF Education-EasyPost after his breakthrough in the Ardennes Classics and impressive performance in the Giro d'Italia.

The 22-year-old Irish rider joins EF Education-EasyPost from Trinity Racing's 2022 development team, where he blossomed this year. He was considered a future Mountain Classic winner and attracted interest from many other major teams, but chose to remain with EF Education-EasyPost.

"I am very happy to announce that I have signed a new contract with the team and will continue to race pink," Healy said.

"This team is just a great environment. It gives me a lot of opportunities to do the kind of racing I want to do. I'm happy to be a part of this team."

Healy showed off his strong spring by winning a stage and finishing third overall at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali in late March. He then won the Italian one-day race GP Industria & Artigianato and finished second in De Brabantse Pijl, where the Ardennes Classics began.

In the Amstel Gold Race, he ran away with Tadei Pogachar and Tom Pidcock, pulling away from the Ineos Grenadiers riders to finish second. A week later, he finished fourth in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race.

Healy then made his Grand Tour debut alone, being part of a breakaway group on the road to Fossenbronne on stage 8 of the Giro.

A week later in Bergamo, he finished second behind Brandon McNulty. His aggressive racing and laid-back attitude made him one to watch this spring.

"We are so proud to have Ben with us and to continue our journey together," said Jonathan Vaughters, team manager at EF Education-Easy Post.

"It's always special when a talent just starting his professional career can accomplish something special and leave him on the team. He's a really nice guy. He lends a hand in a lot of ways. I loved watching him feed in Roubaix.

"He's a killer in the races, but in everyday life he's selfless.

Heal is expected to rest after completing the Giro d'Italia and target the second half of the season, including Il Lombardia.
