The final Groupama-FDJ lineup for the 2023 Tour de France has been announced, with Thibaut Pinot, Stéphane Kühn, and David Gaudoux leading the team as expected.
For climbing star Pinot, the 2023 edition will be his last Tour de France.
The absence of sprinter Arnaud Demaret has already sparked controversy when it was announced last week, with the Tour roster largely focused on Gaudoux. In today's final rider announcement, Australian climber Michael Stohler was finally not selected.
Swiss time triallist Stefan Küng is another who has just won the opening time trial of his home stage race. Küng has already said that he regrets that the hilly course in week 3, the only TT on this year's route, is not suitable for a specialist like himself who is fighting the clock.
Team management said that Gaud's goal is to finish on the podium, but that the team will also be looking for stage wins.
"I am very happy to be taking part in this year's Tour de France," Gaudo said.
"We have a great team again and with all that Thibault has taught me about this race over the years, I am very happy to be riding with him in his last Tour participation.
"Last year we finished fourth overall and our goal this year is to move forward. It will probably be one of the hardest things to do. But I am ready to take on this challenge."
Gordou recently finished 30th overall in the Criterium du Dauphiné, which fell short of expectations, but he hoped to bounce back in July.
"I'm very happy to be in my last Tour," added Pinot, who first competed in the Tour de France in 2012 and took a memorable solo win in Polintruy. He recently won the mountains title at the Giro d'Italia.
"The Giro was an exhausting race, but I am ready for this challenge. I just finished a few stages of Recon and a training camp in La Crusa and I hope I have the same legs as I did at the end of the Giro."
"I want to be at 100% for this race one last time.
