The Jumbo-Visma team of defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has announced a special jersey for this year's French Grand Tour.
The Jumbo-Visma women's team will also wear this special jersey at the Tour de France Femme in July.
The design is a collaboration between the team, apparel manufacturer AGU, and Efteling, a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kurtzheubel.
One of Efteling's past features was an antique bicycle-themed merry-go-round called the Velodrome. This merry-go-round was relocated this year to a corner of a park called Anton Pieck Plein in honor of Efteling's founder.
The ride and jersey designs were inspired by a fairy tale about the power of dreams written by Efteling designer Sander de Bruijn.
"The story of a little cyclist who, under a twinkling starry sky, is unleashed from a merry-go-round called the velodrome and finishes on the Champs-Elysées as if in a dream," the press release reads.
Similar to last year's Rembrandt-inspired design, the darker design distinguishes the Jumbo-Visma team jersey from the yellow jersey worn by Tour de France leaders.
The limited edition jersey is black with stars scattered throughout. The map of France is depicted in a hexagon in the center of the chest above the Jumbo Visma logo.
Fans who pre-order by May 1 can "add a map of personal moments and the corresponding star locations.
Each athlete - if allowed by the UCI - will "carry his or her personal star chart to the finish line."
"Winning last year's Tour de France was a long-held dream," said Richard Plug, general manager of Jumbo Visma.
"By daring to dream big and setting ourselves a deadline, we made our dream come true. With this jersey, we hope to inspire people around the world to pursue their dreams."
." We will wear this jersey proudly at the next Tour de France. Of course, we will do everything in our power to make the dream come true once again."
