Jai Hindley and Benoit Kosnefrois missed the Fleche Wallonne due to illness.
Beulah Hansgrohe reported Wednesday morning that Hindley is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and will therefore not be able to participate in Flèche. It is not yet known if he will be able to compete in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race on Sunday.
Hindley finished 12th in last week's Amstel Gold Race, making the Ardennes Classic his final race of the spring; the 2022 Giro d'Italia winner will likely skip Corsa Rosa this year for his Tour de France debut.
Kosnefroe, who warmed up for the Ardennes with a third-place finish at Brabantse Pijl last week, was already struggling with illness before the Amstel Gold Race, where he finished 21st. The Frenchman revealed on Tuesday that he was uncertain about his participation in Flèche Wallonne due to bronchitis.
"I was already not feeling very well on Sunday, but the Amstel Gold Race did not solve the problem," said Kosnefroi, according to L'Équipe (open in new tab). Today (Tuesday), the situation is even worse than it was yesterday." Today (Tuesday), the situation is even worse than yesterday. We will probably attend the team presentation, but I don't know what we will do during the race. I can't say that I am in good shape."
On Wednesday morning, Cosnefroi's AG2R Citroën team announced that he would not be able to compete in Flèche Wallonne, but said he would be available for Sunday's Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
"His health has improved in the last few hours, but he cannot compete in such a demanding event," team doctor Serge Niamke told L'Équipe newspaper.
