Demi Vollering, one win away from the Triple Crown of the Ardennes Classics.

Demi Vollering is just one win away from a triple Ardennes Classics victory after a remarkable run of successes last Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race in Cauberg and Wednesday's victory atop Mule de Huy for victory in Flèche Wallonne.

The leader of the SD work, she now heads into Sunday's Liege-Bastogne-Liege with the goal of winning all three races in one season: 2017 Anna van der Breggen, 2011 Philippe Gilbert, 2004 David Rebellin.

"I'm going to finish the job in Liège-Bastogne-Liège," Vollering said in a post-race interview in Huy.

Vollering is part of the SD Works team that has won 11 spring classics. She has won the Strade Bianche, the Doire de Flanderen, the Amstel Gold Race, and the Flèche Wallonne.

The Dutch rider attributed much of her recent success in the Ardennes Classics to the strength and cohesion of her teammates. In particular, he acknowledged the help of his teammates in Fresh Wallonne, where he battled with nerves early in the race and confidence in the local laps, including the Mule de Uys.

"This climb is very hard and I don't know how I feel about it.

"Of course I knew my legs were good, but [the race] was very early this morning and I struggled with food during the race today. The team got me through the race and they were important to me."

SD Work Director Anna van der Breggen was in the team car for both the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, and also guided the team in Liège - Bastogne - Liège.

Van der Breggen won the Amstel Gold Race in 2017, a record seven times in Flèche Wallonne between 2015 and 2021, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2017 and 2018, becoming the only She became the only female player to win all three events in a single season.

The long-running Flèche Wallonne celebrated its 26th edition on the women's calendar this year. However, it was not until 2017, when the Amstel Gold Race returned to the women's calendar after a 14-year absence, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège made its debut, that the Ardennes Classics became a triple winner.

Vollering finished third in Flèche Wallonne in 2020 and 2022 and was visibly emotional after her victory in the legendary Mule de Huy.

"Today I found a way to handle the Mule de Uy," she said, fighting back tears.

"When I looked behind me, there was a pretty big difference." I thought, "This can't be happening," and looked behind me again." I also thought, "Now they're going to surround (me), so let's get ready for the final sprint," but I didn't have to.

Vollering finished five seconds ahead of second-place Liane Lippert (Movistar) and seven seconds ahead of third-place Gaia Lealini (Trek-Segafredo).

She spoke of how special this victory was and how winning such an iconic uphill proved her performance.

"I always wanted to win this race, but for a few years I wasn't good enough. I came close a few times, but it wasn't enough. I always doubted myself a little bit."

"It's difficult because if you're not good enough on the climbs, you lose faith in yourself. You think, 'Maybe this is not for me.'
