Audrey Cordón-Lago has been registered as an athlete with American Human Powered Health and officially registered with the team on the UCI website.
Her transfer was confirmed two weeks after Cordón-Lago resigned from the Spanish-registered Zaaf cycling team for allegedly not paying her athlete salary.
She is also listed on the sport's governing body's website as a member of Human Powered Health, which had hoped to race this season, two days before the Paris-Roubaix Fam Avec Zwift on April 8.
The UCI confirmed to Cycling News on Thursday that it will consider athletes' requests for permission to register with a new team on a case-by-case basis before the designated transfer window in June.
"The UCI will consider requests for permission to register with a new team prior to the next registration period when there are obvious and compelling reasons for an athlete to terminate his/her contractual relationship with his/her former team," a UCI representative wrote to Cycling News.
"The UCI has received a communication reporting the alleged problems with the UCI Women's Continental Team Zaaf, and the UCI is in the process of clarifying the situation with the riders, teams and national federations responsible for team registration and assures that the applicable rules and procedures are followed."
Cordón-Lago terminated her previous contract with Zaf Cycling following what she called a "lack of professionalism" and allegations that team management had not paid some riders and staff since January 1, 2023.
The Spanish-registered Continental women's team is currently under investigation by the UCI and the Spanish Cycling Federation, with the sports governing body seeking to clarify the team's financial situation and, if necessary, execute a bank guarantee to compensate the riders and staff.
Cycling News contacted the Zarf Cycling Team to clarify the team's financial situation and to clarify allegations that some riders and staff have not been paid their salaries and allegations of unprofessionalism, to which the team has yet to respond.
Cordon-Lago submitted his resignation to the Zarf Cycling team on March 22 after completing the Tour de Normandie Fémine, stating that he wanted to change teams in the transfer market, which opens on June 1, in order to compete in his target Tour de France Fémine Avec Zwift He stated that he was hoping to change teams in the transfer market, which opens on June 1, in order to compete in the Tour de France Femin avec Zwift, which was his goal.
However, she no longer has to wait that long and can resume her competitive program now that her contract with Human Powered Health was approved in April. In that race, she finished eighth in 2021 and 27th in 2022, helping former Trek Segafredo teammates Lizzie Deignan and Elisa Longo Borghini win the race.
It was a turbulent eight months for Cordón-Lago, who suffered a stroke before the World Championships last September and became part of a group of players left without contracts after the sudden collapse of the B&B Hotels team.
Since starting the season with Zarf Cycling in January, she has finished third in the women's cycling Pro Costa de Almeria, sixth in the Vuelta CV Feminas, third in the women's UAE Tour, third in the Omloop van het Hegeland, and fourth in Le Samin de Damm, Her last race was the Tour de Normandie in March. She is currently with Human Powered Health, but her racing schedule has not yet been finalized.
