Zoe Buckstedt to take on Paris-Roubaix for the first time with the pedals that won her father's race.

Junior world champion Zoe Beckstedt rode her first Paris-Roubaix on Saturday, while teammate Allison Jackson won the third annual Paris-Roubaix Fam Avec Zwift.

Beckstedt raced with the same Speedplay pedals her father used to win the men's race in 2004, which were modified by hand before the race to reduce the possibility of mud clogging and later became the mass-produced Speedplay Zero Pave

"Speedplay" pedals were used in the race.

"We have known for some time that the Speedplay is a bit of a tricky pedal, as it clips in as soon as mud gets between the cleat and the pedal," Magnus Beckstedt, director sportif of Canyon-Slam, explained to Cycling News after the race. He explained. [Richard from Speedplay sat in the Compiègne bathtub and scraped the colored parts off the pedals.

"I had these pedals at home and another pair from another production. I figured why not give her the option to use it."

"I had a pair of pedals in the house, and I had a pair in the production room.

With Zoe's sister Elinor Beckstedt using a different pedal in Trek Segafredo, the potentially thorny question of which daughter would use the race-winning pedal was easily resolved.

EF Education-Tibco-SVB's Zoe and Magnus shared an emotional embrace immediately after the finish.

"It was emotional to race with Elinor for the first time and have him in the team car," Zoe said after the finish. And AJ won. And AJ won.

Speaking more broadly about the race, Beckstedt spoke of his tough introduction to the cobbled classic." It was a really brutal race.

"Then, just as I had done the Mini Roubaix when I was younger, the sectors I had never raced in Ricon were sectors I had raced three or four times in the past.

"I was struggling in the standings just a little bit. My legs were a little tired. It was a big block of racing for me."

Beckstedt finished 46th, 4:58 behind winner Allison Jackson, but spoke of her elation at seeing her teammate win.

"I walked into the velodrome and looked over the big screen. I saw AJ sprinting and celebrating." I'm not kidding, I think I was yelling the whole way around that lap."

Allison Jackson is well known in the peloton for her spirited personality, and Backstedt says there was a strong friendship between the two.

"She's great. She's really good with me. We have a lot of fun together. Just having her on the team is really good for all of us, to be honest."

Despite being a registered player on another team, Magnus shared his daughter's joy at seeing Jackson win.

"You know, it's always nice to see people taking chances today," she said. Jackson won this match."

"This is what Paris-Roubaix is all about - sometimes crazy moves.
