Time Trial World Champion Tobias Foss targets Volta ao Algarve for debut

Time trial world champion Tobias Foss will make his season debut at the Volta ao Algarve on Wednesday, hoping to make the podium in the fifth stage time trial around Lagoa.

Foss was expected to at least make the podium in last year's race, but he and Sergio Iguita crashed just before the finish line.

The 25-year-old Foss surprised the world by winning the 34.2km time trial around Wollongong ahead of Stefan Kung and Remco Evenpoel.

Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard will make his season debut next week in O Gran Camino, while Primoz Roglic is still working on his form after undergoing precision shoulder surgery. The team also includes Tim van Dijk, Gijs Riemries, Milan Vedder, Sam Omen, and Owen Gehlen.

"We want to get consistent results this season. I want to get consistent results this season. That's one of my personal goals for this season," he said via Jumbo-Visma.

"Right now I feel perfect. The winter went very well. My training has been good and I've been able to get a lot of miles in. I can't wait to get back to racing."

Foss plans to stay in contention for the other overalls on stages 2 and 4 and make a difference in the time trial in Lagoa. His biggest rivals will probably be Ineos Grenadiers' Timen Arensmann and Tom Pidock, Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates), and local rider Rui Costa (Intermarché Circus Wanty).

"The time trial course is almost 25 km, perfect for me. Very technical and hilly," Foss said.

Foss, who unveiled his new rainbow band once at the Chrono de Nations, is excited for the special chance to "show it off to the world" in Portugal.

"The jersey has given me wings. I hope it will do so again this season. I am confident in my time trial starts. I can win races at the highest level."
