Inaugural UAE Tour Women's to Feature Jebel Hafeet Summit in Last-Minute Route Reveal

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, organizers of the newly launched UAE Tour Women's, did not reveal details of the route or the individual stages, even though the event will take place February 9-12, only two weeks after its start.

The new four-day race will be the third stop on the 2023 Women's World Tour, following the Women's Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Australia in January.

The route will provide the peloton with three days of flat racing for sprinters, with stage 1 in Dubai and stages 2 and 4 in Abu Dhabi.

And for climbers, the third stage on the summit of Jebel Hafeet in Abu Dhabi will be the day that decides the GC.

The UCI announced last June that five events have been added to the 2023 Women's World Tour calendar. These additional events include the Santos Women's Tour Down Under, upgrades to the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Tour de Suisse, and the return of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race after a two-year hiatus.

The UAE Tour Women is an entirely new event, taking place over four stages the week before the men's race, which is being held starting in 2019.

The peloton will start the UAE Tour Women's race with a 109-km opening stage from Port Rashid to Dubai Harbour, for a total of 468 km. The entire route will be wide and flat, with the sprinters expected to have their first leader's jersey moments.

In Abu Dhabi, the sprinters will also race the second stage on day two, 133 km from Al Dhafra Castle to Al Mirfa. It will be run mainly on paved desert roads, ending with a 60-km run along the coast to Al Mirfa.

The most important third stage for climbers in the competition, the 107-km route begins at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium and ends at the top of Jebel Hafeet.

The final climb is a hairpin turn on a three-lane road. The average gradient is 8-9%, but peaks at 11% at 3 km from the finish. There is a short descent in the last 1 km, followed by an uphill climb to the finish.

The final day sets up a 119 km route from Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy to the Abu Dhabi breakwater for the third group sprint to close out the UAE Tour Women.
