Scott Sports announced today a voluntary recall of Speedster bikes.
"Scott is conducting this recall after an internal investigation revealed that the steerer tube/fork bridge may break, posing a fall hazard," the notice explains. Another report further elaborates that during in-house testing, "traces of cracks were found in the fork steerer."
"To date, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries due to possible breakage and no reports of malfunctions," the notice continues.
The recall affects a total of five models from Scott's 2022 model year. Specifically, these include the Speedster 40 and Speedster 50 road bikes, and the Speedster Gravel 50, Speedster Gravel 40 EQ, and Contessa Speedster Gravel 35 gravel bikes. A total of 1985 bikes are affected.
The affected models were sold in Europe, Asia, and South America. According to Scott, customers in the U.S. and Australia are not affected by the recall.
Owners of these models are instructed to check for a green dot under the fork bridge. Those without the green dot are subject to a recall, while those with the dot can safely continue to ride.
Owners of affected models are advised to stop riding their bikes immediately and bring them to an authorized Scott dealer.
