Davide Rebellin's funeral will be held Friday morning in his hometown of Ronigo, near Vicenza in northern Italy, after a detailed autopsy of his body has been completed by a pathologist.

According to Italian press reports, the autopsy confirmed that Rebellin's death was caused by a collision with a truck that allegedly rear-ended him at a roundabout near Ronigo. No underlying medical conditions were found.

Italian police are considering issuing a European arrest warrant for a German truck driver who allegedly stopped immediately after the collision but then drove off and returned to Germany.

After an autopsy, Rebellin's family and the German trucker's legal representatives finally had Rebellin's body released by Italian police, and his funeral was finally scheduled to take place.

The Italian police intend to conduct a dynamic reconstruction of the incident in order to fully understand what happened and what caused Rebellin's death.

They already have evidence from witness photos, videos, and a video camera from a nearby restaurant parking lot, and will reportedly also study how Rebellin's bicycle was destroyed in the incident.

Rebellin's funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the cathedral in Lonigo.

Rebellin had just ended his long professional career with a celebration in front of a local crowd at the finish of the Veneto Classic in Bassano del Grappa last month. The accident, which occurred in Montebello Vicentino, killed Rebellin instantly.

In a Facebook post, Rebellin's widow wrote of her heartbreaking loss and love for the former professional rider. Françoise married the Italian rider in 2004 and they lived together in the hills near Vicenza and Monte Carlo.

"I am trying to recover from what happened, but I don't know how to do it without you."

"Please embrace me with your aura, so beautiful, so kind, so warm. Give me the strength to get back on my feet. Give me the strength to recover and the restful sleep that you deserve. You are always and forever in my heart and in my being," she wrote.
