Every year, as the end of the year approaches, the great migration of pro cycling equipment begins. Jumbo Visma got a lot of new equipment, including a Sram drivetrain, Nimble shoes, and Oakley sunglasses, but among the promo shots of his latest team bike, he seems to have spotted a new Vittoria tire, the Corsa Pro.
As you can see from the images, there is not much to go on. However, the logo is not black, in contrast to all current Vittoria tanwall tires, and there is currently no "Corsa Pro" model in the brand's lineup.
The following is a bit of interpretation and what can realistically be assumed: .......
It is safe to assume that the tread will be some variation on the current Corsa blueprint of lines running parallel to the direction of rotation. This is common to all Corsa models, and any deviation from this is unthinkable.
The name "Pro" may mean that the tread will be slimmer, the rubber compound will change, and the tire will be available only to the pro peloton, like the Continental Pro LTD.
Another important point is that the reserve rim is fitted with a tubeless valve, indicating that this is a tubeless tire. Previously, the only tires available for the tanwall version of the Corsa were either clinchers or tubular tires.
A promo shot of the team is nice, but Wout Van Aert (and the rest of the team) was seen testing this new tire at the Roubaix velodrome.
For the Belgian superstar, Paris-Roubaix, the queen of the classics, is always a big target, a race where tires play a more important role than in other races. Jumbo Bisma has previously fitted custom tires with a Dugast casing and Vittoria tread. Given that the Dugast brand was acquired by Vittoria in 2021, it is quite possible that this custom product was a development, if not the result of a joint effort between the two.
Would a switch to tubeless make a difference? In a race like Roubaix, which is subject to mechanical accidents, it might, especially in light of the fact that two of the team's wheels broke in half last year.
