Gianni Savio's GW Shimano-Cidamech team with 15 players

After the demise of the Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli ProTeam, Gianni Savio turned his attention to running the new Colombian team GW Shimano-Sidermec.

The team races at the continental level, but unlike the 2022 Colombia Tierra de Atletas-GW-Shimano team, it will consist of 15 riders next season: 12 Colombians, two Italians, and one Norwegian.

The team includes Arkea Samsic's Miguel Flores, Honatan Restrepo, Brandon Rojas, Gabriele Benedetti, Alessandro Bisorti, Trim Westgard Holter, and drone hopper - Androni Giocattoli's Santiago Umba is there. Also on the team is Alejandro Osorio, who was dismissed from the Burleen Victorious in April for alleged violations of the team's COVID-19 bubble.

Edgar Pinson, Andres Mancipe, and Germán Gómez join from Tierra de Atletas, Colombia, while the remaining Colombians are under 23: William Colorado, Jonathan Guatibonza, Diego Pescador (all 18 years old), and 20-year-old Jefferson Ruiz.

Savio had signed a four-year contract with Dronehopper starting in 2022, but the company was unable to meet the terms of his contract. He told Cyclingpro.net that the company "made some mistakes at the beginning of the season, which resulted in a lack of fluidity."

"We chose Continental's solution to bring the team back as a professional team from the 2022 season to the 2024 season.

"It is a solution to survive with dignity. Without the exact project, we would not have joined Continental, which has riders drawn from other teams. Instead, here we have a project supported by the Colombian Federation.

Savio is familiar with Colombian riders and has hired top riders such as Egan Bernal and Ivan Sosa since they were unknown and sold contracts to World Tour teams.

"Expectations are high. The goal is to position this team as one of the best continental teams in the world," technical director Luis Alfonso Celis said in a press release. One of the team's main goals is to promote the bicycle brand GW.

"The use of GW bicycles in our team shows that this company has established itself in the cycling industry," Savio said.

"We are convinced that this bike meets all the requirements of modern cycling in terms of construction, materials, top quality components, and state-of-the-art technology to guarantee the cyclist's performance. We are proud to compete with this pure Colombian brand."
