New Campagnolo Gold Corkscrew priced at €1950

If you're looking for a gift for the cyclist who has everything this Christmas and has enough money to burn a hole in his or her pocket, look no further! Renowned Italian groupset manufacturer Campagnolo has updated its popular novelty cycling Christmas gift, the Big One corkscrew, by releasing two limited editions.

One is made of rose gold with 24K gold plating and the other of 18K gold plating. Each corkscrew is 30 cm tall and will sell for €1950. As an addendum for our international readers, this is about £1680 in the UK and $2050 in the US. This is equivalent to 25 pairs of Continental GP5000 tires (open in new tab), one Campagnolo Ekar groupset, 11 of the original version, or two Specialized Allez bikes (open in new tab).

Campagnolo is renowned for producing some of the best road bike group sets available. Campagnolo has also been making and selling corkscrews for many years; they were born in 1966 when Tullio Campagnolo himself injured his hand while opening a bottle of wine.

His own designs have stood the test of time and have been in production ever since. Campagnolo's corkscrews use a self-aligning telescopic bell that positions the screw in the exact center of the cork and prevents a hole in the bottom, eliminating the risk of cork fragments falling into the wine.

The regular Campagnolo Big Corkscrew is fairly inexpensive at €179 (£174.99 / $235.00) and comes in satin or bronze finish. If you have no intention of selling your bike, this may be a more realistic option.

As a finishing touch, the regular and new limited edition Corkscrews use 1970s Super Record chainring bolts to attach the arms to the Corkscrew itself.
