SD Worx Specialized Bike Stolen in "Brutal Robbery"

SD Worx issued a social media call to action to raise awareness of the latest in a series of high-profile pro cycling bike thefts that the team described as "brutal" robberies in which multiple bikes were stolen.

The team shared images of bikes including a Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7, an S-Works Shiv time trial bike, and an S-Works Roubaix, suggesting that multiple bikes were stolen in each case.

A Twitter message read, "Team SD Walks is the victim of a brutal robbery.

"TT bikes, road bikes, and Roubaix bikes stolen.

"Please share this message! Thank you for your cooperation.

Cycling News requested more details on the number of bikes stolen and where they were stolen. However, the team is unable to share any further information due to the ongoing police investigation.

The team, which topped the UCI's World Tour rankings in 2022, left Tuesday for an off-season training camp in San Francisco, California. However, the country from which the bikes were stolen has not been confirmed.

Burglaries and bike thefts on this scale are not uncommon for international cycling teams, with the Italian national track team suffering the theft of a team van containing 22 bikes worth an estimated 600,000 euros in a secure parking lot in Lille last year.

These bikes were recovered in a subsequent drug raid and returned to the Italian team.

In 2021, Team Bike Exchange also suffered the theft of a team bike at the Tour de l'Ardèche, which resulted in rival teams providing spare bikes to the affected riders in order to complete the race.

In early 2022, the Israel Cycling Academy, a development team of Israel Premier Tech, had 22 bikes stolen from the team's equipment truck during a training camp in Spain.

Since bikes can be sold shortly after they are stolen, images of the bikes would be helpful in the investigation if they were shared widely. A spokesperson for SD Worx told Cycling News, "The police have asked us to release photos of the stolen bikes."

"If someone sees them being offered, it could trigger an alarm. In the past, they have already been able to solve bike thefts that way."

"We've already had a few cases of bike thefts in the past.

Anyone with information about a lost bicycle can contact SD Worx on their social channels or email: [email protected].
