World Champion Lemco Evenpoel is on his bike for the 2023 season at his winter base near Calpe, Spain.

His friend and training partner at Continental team Trinity Racing, Siebe Rozems, posted a video on Instagram of Evenpoel training in a rainbow jersey. (Open in new tab) Evenpoel then re-posted the video on his Instagram account.

The video shows Evenpoel, dressed in his new rainbow jersey, heading down the coastal road toward Calpe as the sun sets over the Mediterranean Sea; Roesems tagged the video Calpe, noting that he ran at 5:45 p.m. local time.

After winning the Vuelta a España and world titles in Australia, Evenepoel has confirmed that he will be moving from Belgium to Spain this winter, heading to Alicante to make the most of his training conditions and escape the glare of home.

Despite a long and hard race in 2022, Evenepoel was one of the first riders to resume training for 2023. However, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, he is doing basic training rides and mixing in miles and coffee stops.

"The area around Alicante is a really beautiful area to train. The weather is great all year round, so it's perfect for basic training and winter training," Evenpoel told Het Laatste Nieuws (open in new tab) earlier this year.

"I also find training routes a little harder than the Ardennes. That is also necessary because I want to continue targeting Grand Tours and difficult mountain stage races."

"I'm going to concentrate on my daily life, not on things like singing contests. People who want something from me won't know where I am or what I'm doing. That should help a little bit."

During Evenpoel's recent visit to Alicante, he stayed at the Syncrosfera Hotel, run by former professional Alexander Kolobnev. He now plans to set up his own high-altitude room in his new apartment.

Evenepoel's Quick Step Alpha Vinyl team will gather near Calpe for a training camp in December. Evenepoel will reveal his Grand Tour plans for 2023 at the team's official presentation on January 6 at the Plopsaland theme park in De Panne, Belgium.

Evenepoel and several teammates have hinted that the 2023 Giro d'Italia will be their goal, but they have also accelerated their Grand Tour ambitions and are considering debuting in the Tour de France.
