Lizzie Holden will make her long-awaited top team debut in 2023 when she signs with UAE team ADQ.
The British rider, who has spent six seasons growing as an athlete with two teams, Biscayre Durango and Le Cor Wahoo, says she is ready for a career move to the Women's World Tour.
"The World Tour has been my goal since I started cycling. So I am very excited to start this new journey with UAE Team ADQ," Holden said.
"I think I still have a lot to learn within cycling and about team structure and focus on high performance. I can confidently say that I am at the right place at this stage in my career. I think the trust of the team and being surrounded by quality riders will push me to the next level."
Holden got his start in professional cycling in 2017 with Team Drops in the UK, where he spent three seasons before moving to the Spain-based program Bizkaia-Durango.
Next year, as a member of UAE Team ADQ, Holden hopes to continue her progress in some of the bigger races on the Women's World Tour, as well as improve her confidence in her abilities as one of the top riders in the world.
"I want to work hard and improve. I want to contribute to the team and help my new teammates achieve big goals. Personally, I still need to work hard to improve my confidence and my abilities. But I believe that being surrounded by such a positive and successful team will help me a lot," she said.
Holden is joined by six new riders, including former world champion Marta Bastianelli, Silvia Persico of Tour de France Fam, and Olivia Baril, Chiara Conssoni, and Eleonora Gasparini of Valcar Travel & Service. They join a team of 16 riders, including Olivia Baril, Chiara Consonni, and Eleonora Gasparini of Valcar Travel & Service. Alena Amiariusik and Mikayla Harvey join from Canyon-SRAM, adding climbing strengths to the team.
"Over the course of my career, I have seen women's sports grow tremendously. As a female athlete, I feel it is important to empower and motivate other women to pursue their dreams," Holden said.
"For this reason, I am very excited to be a part of the team's broader project of supporting and promoting women's sports, especially in the UAE."
