Alessandro De Marchi signs with BikeExchange-Jayco

BikeExchange-Jayco announced the signing of Italian rider Alessandro De Marchi from the Israeli Premier Tech Team. The escape specialist said he is "proud to have received an offer from such a great team at a delicate time in his career."

The 36-year-old led two stages of the Giro d'Italia after finishing second to American Joe Dombrowski on a stage to Sestra last year. This season, however, he failed to contribute to the Israeli premier tech points contenders for UCI WorldTour residency, suffering from COVID-19 and two other illnesses in the spring before regaining form in the second half of the season.

A one-year deal with BikeExchange-Jayco has given new life to this experienced climber's career, and the team for the 2023 season will consist of 30 riders.

"This hasn't been my best season, but these new offers give me a lot of motivation for 2023," de Marchi said in a team press release. [It will be an important year for me to show that I am still a strong rider and one of my key roles will be to use the experience of the last 10 years as a professional.

"Team Bike Exchange Jayco is a really professional organization and has a strong work ethic. 'Of course there is pressure, but with the right attitude you can do your best.'

De Marchi has a strong influx of riders for next season. Other riders include Zdeněk Stibal (Quick Step), Eddy Dunbar (Ineos Grenadiers), Lucas Pestlberger (Bora-Hansgrohe), Chris Harper (Jumbo Visma), and young rider Filippo Zana (Bardiani), Blake Quick and Rudy Porter (Trinity Racing), and Waley Berhe will be newcomers.

"In 2023, there will be a lot of changes in the team, a lot of young talent joining the team, but also a mix of experienced riders like myself. So I will do everything in my power to help the new generation grow and become the best athletes they can be and support the growth of the team."

Brent Copeland, general manager of BikeExchange-Jayco, welcomed de Marchi to the team. De Marchi is committed to the success of himself and his teammates while acting as road captain and mentor.

"It's really great for us to have Alessandro join our team. He has a lot of experience, and it was important for us to find a rider who would not only fit easily into our team environment, but also bring great experience and be a great role model for the younger riders, as well as someone we can trust to perform when given the chance," said Copeland. [Alessandro] was a great example to the younger riders. [Alessandro] is a great asset on and off the bike, and we believe we have signed a rider who will complement our carefully constructed roster for 2023.

"With the addition of De Marchi and Stibal, we have a great balanced team with young talent and older, mature riders who will lead the way. They will play a valuable role and bring a lot to the team after years of racing professionally. They have experienced all the big races and have witnessed the evolution of racing. I am very much looking forward to the start of the new season."
