Wildlife Generation Ends Title Sponsorship of US Continental Road Team

The 24th season of American Continental team Wildlife Generation Pro Cycling Team is in a precarious situation as team director Danny Van Houte, who has nurtured the US-based Continental program since its inception in 1999 who has nurtured the U.S.-based Continental program since its inception in 1999, announced in a letter that he will not renew the current title sponsorship agreement with Wildlife Generation. Van Houte said he is looking for a replacement to keep the team going through 2023. [Danny Van Houte, owner of Team Redlands, which operates the team, said, "I want to thank the Wildlife Generation for their support over the past four seasons. We have several projects in the works for 2023, but nothing we can announce yet."

Van Houte notified all current riders from the 2022 roster, but has already lost one of the most successful riders of the season, Scott McGill. Scott McGill, a Volta a Portugal points prize winner, will step up from the Human Powered Health team to the pro team next year on a two-year contract.

The team started as the Jerry Berry Cycling Team and became a household name in American road racing after 19 years of support from the candy company; in 2019, Wildlife Generation will be the title sponsor and the team is dedicated to wildlife advocacy and utilizing cycling teams in efforts to promote habitat and healthy ecosystem conservation

"The global pandemic has shifted the pro cycling calendar so much that many races are just now finally returning. I am proud of all the athletes and staff over the past 23 years," Van Haute said, adding that all inquiries will be addressed immediately.

"Special thanks to Matty Rice, rider and team DS. Team Redlands looks forward to returning there and putting our numbers on wherever bikes are raced!"

Throughout its 23 years of existence, the team has been led by National Champions Jonas Kearney and Fred Rodriguez, Mexican Champions Ulises Castillo Soto and Luis Lemus Davila, Romanian Champion Sergei Tvetkov, Canadian Champion Will Lautry, and Turkish Champion Ahmet Olken, many riders have achieved notable results, winning titles at the National Championships.

Notable alumni include Lachlan Morton, Gavin Mannion, Kiel Reynen, Matteo Jorgenson, Johnny Clark, Andrew Bajadari, Taylor Shelden, Noah Granigan and Magill.

This season, the team won the Joe Martin Stage with two wins for Granigan and Clark, the Volta a Portugal with two wins for McGill, and the season finale, the Bucks County Classic.
