Young American rider Jared Scott (Aevolo) has made the leap to the European peloton, signing with Green Project-Bardiani CSF Faizanè, a two-year deal through 2024, making Scott the team's only North American rider for the upcoming season.
Bardiani recently announced plans to remain a professional team through 2027 with the help of new title sponsor Green Project Agency and six young Italian riders, including 18-year-old Trofeo Bufoni winner Matteo Scarco added to the roster.
"I am very excited to join this team. There is a lot of work and dedication behind it, with several developments and improvements being made for the new season. I am ready to prove my worth."
Scott, who rode for Team USA in the Tour de Lavenir in August, crashed in the pack on the first stage and retired with a broken wrist. The injury required two surgeries and ended his season earlier than expected after a good start.
"I didn't want to end the 2022 season like this. I broke my wrist on the first stage of the Tour de l'Avenir and had to retire. I was in great shape to finish the year strong, but sometimes those things happen," Scott posted on social media.
Scott, a Colorado native, finished third in the opening stage of the South Aegean Tour and also made the podium in the first stage of the International Tour of Rhodes, finishing eighth overall. Eboro won the final stage at the Redlands Bicycle Classic in the U.S. in late spring and finished eighth overall at the Tour of the Gila.
At the U23 US Nationals in Roanoke, Virginia, he took silver in the time trial, and at the US Pro Road Nationals, held the day before his 20th birthday, he finished in the top 25 in the road race and 11th in the time trial, making him the top rider on the development team. He became the team's top rider.
"I'm a little disappointed that I didn't make the top 10, but I'm happy with the progress I've made in the TT this year. I'm happy with how I rode. The heat was a factor and a lot of riders faded out on the last lap, so I'm happy with my performance.
Green Team - Bardiani Team Manager Roberto Reverberi was confident in the young American rider, who has been impressive at the U23 and elite levels this summer.
"Given Jared's results in national races so far, we can only hope for a positive future for this young man who will be racing [U23] and pro next year," Reverberi added.
Scott's departure from Evolo coincides with his teammate Cooper Johnson, the U.S. U23 road race champion, moving to Hagens Berman Axiom in 2023.
